M A N I K – She Watches Me

This was a fun one to make.  The program was centered around some imaginary 80s cinematic exposition shot of someone’s bedroom, panning over their symbolic belongings, and maybe some fog to add mystery.  While I don’t have any fog, I do have a bedroom (sort of) and pseudo random personal effects, so I took some shots of some junk in my apartment.

Part two of the program related to Mr. M A N I K’s love for basketball.  While I don’t condone this sort of thing, he is evidently a Lakers fan.  So I Lakered up his name and pretty much looked to old “48 HRS” posters for any other inspiration:

However late to the game I may be, I’m starting to appreciate what can be done with the iPhone’s camera.  It beats lugging around my Canon G11, and the auto-focus may be (read as “certainly is”) even better.  If only I can kick my addiction to adding a cross process filter to every single photo…

Culprit Sessions 24 – Season Finale

October 2nd marks the final installment of 2011’s Culprit Sessions at the standard hotel, downtown LA.  Here’s a quick look back at the whole season:

This year’s program was based on vintage mens magazines – a little bit of smut and smarm mixed with jazzy type and hazy dream state blur.

Special occasions called for certain deviations from the hardline program.  In this case, it meant including the cover art from Wolf + Lamb vs. Soul Clap’s release.

Naked ladies and palm trees will probably forever be a Culprit signature.

Fireworks for Independence Day.  I don’t think it was intentional when I made it, but this one reminds me of If You’re Feeling Sinister.

The program had stayed mostly within the 60’s and 70’s, but Culprit Sessions 21 coincided with the release of Shonky’s Oasis album, and the artwork followed suit.

Further on into the late 80’s for Hot Natured.

Sticking around in the 80’s for some raunchy goodness.

For the season finale, I thought it only fitting to go full circle back to it’s original idea and rep the 60’s.

Big thanks to Andrei of Culprit for being a great design partner and letting me do my thing!  And congrats to him – Steve Bug, Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Benoit + Sergio, Inxec, Three, M A N I K, Clovis, Shonky, Hot Natured et al, Matt Tolfrey, Lee Curtiss, Martin Buttrich, and jozif – not bad for a Sunday afternoon party!!!

Tiger + Woods

Tiger + Woods are a DJing/producing partnership from…well, I don’t know where.  Maybe somewhere in the Caribbean.  And evidently, no one knows what they look like.  So I took that mystery and ran with it for the poster.  Why can’t they be an awkward interracial duo from 1973 baseball?
